What’s new
What changed in Cut the Cake, newest first.
Start an invitation before you sign up
- Open the app and press Start an invitation: design the whole thing, and keep it when you're ready.
- Deleting, unpublishing or archiving an event is one press, with Undo.
- On iPhone Duo the app opens across both screens.
- A shared album link opens straight in the app.
Invitations that open nine ways
- Your invitation can open nine ways: a lined letter, a tear strip, a pocketfold, a postcard, vellum, string and button, a scroll, a front door or a treasure map.
- Choose the paper, its finish and the liner, and the seal on top.
- The photo booth shows how a round goes before you start one.
Your next party on your home screen
- Put the headcount for your next party on your home screen with the Headcount widget. Up next lists the parties coming up.
- The Headcount widget fits the lock screen too.
- On iPhone and iPad, ask Siri how many are coming, or have it open a party for you.
- Open an iPhone Duo and your event spreads across both pages, with the menu on the left page or narrowed to a third, your choice.
- On an open iPhone Duo, an invitation opens like a card: the cover and the details on the front, everything else beside it.
- Open a foldable phone and your event spreads across both pages.
Invitations that open like an envelope
- Your invitation can open like an envelope, with a seal you choose, and a yes gets confetti.
- Outdoor parties can show guests the weather for the hours of the party.
- The app tells you when a guest asks a question, when answers come in, and when an event needs you.
- Sign in with Apple or Google, or with a code texted to your phone.
- Pick a band and color for your own screens under Appearance.
- Back takes you back to whatever you had open, and sending invitations shows how far along it is.
Smoother typing, and the app knows when it is online
- What you type stays above the keyboard, and a save that did not work says why, right where you pressed.
- The app no longer says it is offline on a working connection, and comes back by itself when the connection does.
- Search setup and features sits under Design and Manage, and opens with what you picked recently.
- A tied award names each winner’s entry, and a winner with no photo no longer leaves an empty box.
Awards
- Name a few awards: best costume, best pie, photo of the night. Guests nominate and vote from their phones, with or without an account.
- You reveal the winners one at a time on the big screen: the room sees the nominees, then the winner. If nobody presses anything, it runs itself.
- No screen? Print a sign with the code guests scan to vote, and the wifi.
- Nametags close at a time you set.
- The bell tells you when a guest makes a nametag.
- Once the party is over, your Overview becomes After the party: the photos, the guestbook, the winners and the thank-you, in the order you reach for them.
Start from an AI assistant, and bring back past guests
- Start an invitation from an AI assistant. Describe the party and it opens a draft with your details filled in.
- With the Cut the Cake connector, an assistant you approve can shape the invitation, pick a cover and add guests while you watch.
- Add guests from your past parties.
- Guests’ questions have a tab of their own in Messaging.
- An RSVP you record by hand can carry the guest’s email, so the answer becomes theirs.
- Guest emails have a refreshed look.
- The app picks up an update without being force-quit.
- The Android app is on Google Play.
- The host plan can be bought in the iOS app.
Simpler to set up
- Every feature has one place, the Features page, with one sheet each. A new event starts with RSVP alone.
- Check-in at the door is a feature of its own, with or without RSVPs.
- The bell and your email tell you when an event needs you: a draft close to its date, invitations with no answer yet, one that didn’t arrive.
- The date and time sit on one card, with a month to pick from.
- Guests are counted as people: 18 guests from 10 invitations.
- Signing in is easier. The email field catches typos like gmial.com.
- Clearer wording throughout.
