How do I turn texts about an event on or off?
On the Notifications tab of your account page, open the event and turn on Texts: confirm your number and the opt-in box, and press Turn on texts. Turn it off to stop. Or answer any text with STOP.
On the website only.
Texts are offered only when the host asks guests for a mobile number. You can say yes on the RSVP form, or later from your account page.
From your account page
Open the account control at the top of your page for the event (your initials), choose Account and open the Notifications tab. There is one row per event; open it for its Email and Texts switches.
- Turning Texts on opens the opt-in: your mobile number, which you can change, and the same unchecked box the RSVP form shows, with the messaging policy, terms and privacy policy beneath it. Check that box and press Turn on texts. Texts is on once that is done, and your first text confirms the signup. Cancel leaves texts off.
- Turning Texts off ends texts about that event at once. Nothing else about your RSVP changes.
Where an event cannot text you, its Texts line says why instead of showing a switch: Not offered when the host does not ask for a mobile number, Once you're coming until you answer yes, and RSVP closed once the event no longer takes answers.
Changing your number turns texts off for the old one, so you are asked to check the box again for the new one.
You can turn texts on for an event three times a day. After that, the page asks you to try again tomorrow. A number gets one confirmation text a day for each event, however many times texts are turned on.
Turn off everything, above the list, turns off email and texts for every event, past ones included, after a second press that says how many. Choose Texting you first to turn off texts alone. A text can be turned back on only through the opt-in: on the website, once nothing is on, the same button reads Turn on everything, and it turns email back on and leaves texts off.
Other ways
On the RSVP form, open Texts about the party, enter your number, check the box and send your answer. To stop texts to your number from every event, answer any text from Cut the Cake with STOP: every Texts switch for that number reads off until you answer START, which turns back on the ones that were on. Answer HELP for help.
Texts come only from Cut the Cake about the one event, never from your host's own phone. Answering a text does not reach your host. A host's message comes to you by email while your email is on and by text while texts are on, so with both on you get both.
